Population genomic of brook charr (Salvelinus fontinalis), towards a sustainable exploitation.

Louis Bernatchez (Supervisor)

I am interested in understanding the evolutionary response of animal species in response to global and local changes: How animal cope with environmental changes. Most of my work to date has focused around the influence of environmental perturbations on genetic and genomic diversity of vertebrates. Under the scope of the biodiversity crisis, I develop my research work on the genomic response of organisms facing with changing environments (perturbed and/or anthropises habitats) in regard to an adaptation and conservation biology approach.

I completed my Master degree and my PhD, in CEFE (Montpellier, France), studying the relative influence of historical versus current factors on the genetic diversity of two threatened reptiles alpine species: the Orsini’s viper (Vipera ursinii complex), species with a large geographical repartition and the Pyrenean rock lizard (Iberolacerta bonnali), endemic species. Then, joining Michael Møller Hansen (Aarhus university, Denmark), I largely enjoyed the full resources provided by the model species, the threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculateus) studying local adaptation, adaptive divergence and stress tolerance at genomic level. I joigned Louis Bernatchez Lab in January 2015 and will challenge my population genomic and evolutionary genomic skills for three salmonidae species:

  1. The Brook charr (Salvelinus fontinalis)
  2. The lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush)
  3. Atlantic salmon (Salmo salmar)
